Thompson (neck) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Thompson hasn't played since Week 15 due to the injury, and his placement on IR will effectively end his season. The 25-year-old will finish his second NFL campaign with six games played, 22 tackles (19 solo), three passes defended and an interception. Although his now certain absence will be a blow to the team's depth at secondary for the playoffs, the return of Damontae Kazee from suspension and Minkah Fitzpatrick's recovery from a knee injury should soften that blow.... Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Practices in full
Thompson (neck) was a full participant in practice Thursday after participating on a limited basis in Wednesday's session, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports. The backup safety is trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks. Thompson suffered the neck injury in Week 15 against the Colts and missed the Steelers' Week 16 contest versus the Bengals. The second-year pro has 22 tackles, three passes defensed and an interception in six games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Limited to begin Week 17 prep
Thompson (neck) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports. Thompson suffered a neck stinger against Indianapolis in Week 15 and sat out last Saturday's win over Cincinnati. His limited practice participation Wednesday is a step in the right direction after he logged a trio of DNPs last week, but his ability to suit up Sunday in Seattle remains uncertain. Thomas posted a season-high seven tackles against the Colts before exiting with the injury.... See More ... See Less -
Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Snags first interception of career
Thompson recorded five solo tackles while also intercepting a pass and deflecting another in Sunday's 16-10 victory over Cincinnati. Thompson hopped in front of a pass from Bengals' quarterback Jake Browning in the third quarter, securing his first career interception. The safety was starting a second straight game in place of Minkah Fitzpatrick (hamstring) and he appears likely to do so again if Fitzpatrick is unable to go Sunday versus the Cardinals....
