Yastrzemski picked up his first steal of the season in this contest. He's spent much of the year in a strong-side platoon role in right field, but the emergence of Heliot Ramos has pushed Yastrzemski over to sharing center field with Austin Slater. Yastrzemski is slashing a poor .214/.282/.384 with six home runs, 24 RBI and 19 runs scored through 175 plate appearances, though he should be able to maintain his platoon role as long as his bat doesn't go too cold. If Yastrzemski struggles, the Giants could eventually opt to give Luis Matos another look in the majors. Matos was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday to make room for Slater's return from a concussion.

Yastrzemski went 1-for-1 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's defeat to the Diamondbacks.
Yastrzemski pinch hit for Luis Matos in the eighth and wound up taking Bryce Jarvis deep to right to make it an 8-5 deficit. The 33-year-old Yaz continues to be deployed in a strong-side platoon role against righties even though he's been struggling to produce for a large portion of the season. In 42 plate appearances since May 21, Yastrzemski is slashing just .154/.214/.410, though he does have 10 RBI on just six hits over that span and hasn't struck out in a game since May 28.

Yastrzemski provided a little cushion with a solo shot in the top of the ninth inning, and it proved vital when the Mets answered back with a run of their own before their rally fell short to end the game. Over his last nine games, Yastrzemski has five multi-hit efforts and four 0-fers on his ledger, going 10-for-34 (.294) with two homers, two doubles and a 2:8 BB:K in that span. The outfielder is at a .225/.286/.380 slash line with five homers, 15 RBI, 16 runs scored and no stolen bases over 141 plate appearances this season in a strong-side platoon role in right field. Ryan McKenna, who was claimed off waivers from the Orioles last Saturday, appears to be Yastrzemski's platoon partner for now, at least until Austin Slater (concussion) returns.

Yastrzemski hopped on a four-seamer from Elieser Hernandez in the bottom of the third and sent it into the stands to put the Giants up 2-0 and later added a single to give the outfielder his second consecutive multi-hit game. It marked Yastrzemski's fourth home run of the campaign and his second in the month of May, during which he's batting just .217. It also marked the first time this season in which he's strung together multiple hits in back-to-back contests.
