Steer isn't in the Reds' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Steer will catch a breather Tuesday after extending his hitting streak to five games while also driving in two runs during Monday's loss. Jacob Hurtubise will get the nod to start in left field and bat ninth while Steer rests.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Snaps team scoreless streak

Steer went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Orioles.

Steer's ninth-inning single plated Cincinnati's lone run, marked his team-leading 23rd RBI and snapped the club's 26-inning scoreless streak at home. The Reds started five players batting .200 or lower and have had issues scoring of late, batting .185 with 78 strikeouts over the last eight games (six losses). Steer's .333 average and .639 slugging with runners in scoring position could be more helpful if the Reds can get on base in front of him. The club ranks 27th in MLB with a .292 on-base percentage.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Clubs solo homer

Steer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base during Wednesday's 6-2 loss to San Diego.

Steer advanced to a perfect 8-for-8 on steal attempts this season and belted his fourth home run of the campaign -- and his first since April 6 -- off of Joe Musgrove in the first inning. He's cooled off since going on a tear to open the season and is batting 5-for-40 (.125) with four RBi and three runs scored during his last 11 games.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Fills in at first base

Steer started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Sunday's 4-3 loss to Texas.

Steer moved from his usual left field to first base, replacing the injured Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand). The run batted in was just his second in the last 14 games, but Speer continues to the lead the club with 20 RBI through 28 games. The steal was his seventh, nearly half of the 15 he had over 156 games in 2023. Encarnacion-Strand may miss a few more games, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, and Steer could add to his games played at first base. So far, he's made four appearances there.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Snaps slump, logs steal

Steer went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers.

Steer snapped an 0-for-18 skid in the third inning then stole his sixth base in 26 games and is on pace to surpass the 15 steals he had in 2023. That's the good fantasy news. On the other side, that hitless run came at the tail end of a 5-for-40 (.125) stretch with no extra-base hits and one RBI over 11 games.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Three hits, steal in win

Steer went 3-for-4 with a walk, stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Angels.

Steer isn't as flashy as teammate Elly De La Cruz, but he's been just as productive to open the season. Steer leads the Reds in average (.324), on-base percentage (.435), RBI (18), hits (23) and is second only to De La Cruz in OPS (.998). The stolen base was Steer's fourth in 20 games, putting him on pace to surpass last season's 15 thefts over 156 contests.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Covers first base

Steer started at first base for an unavailable Christian Encarnacion-Strand (illness) in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to Seattle. He went 0-for-3.

Steer was one of eight Reds in the order to go hitless against Mariner pitching. Elly De La Cruz's second-inning home run off Bryce Miller was the lone offense mustered by Cincinnati. Reds manager David Bell wasn't specific on Encarnacion-Strand's symptoms but mentioned he hadn't been feeling well ahead of the series in Seattle. Steer is 1-for-14 over the last four games but still has a .992 OPS on the season.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Bats cleanup Sunday

Steer went 0-for-3 with a pair of walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 11-4 win over the White Sox.

Steer, who normally bats seventh against right-handers, was moved up to cleanup, switching spots with a slumping Jeimer Candelario. It's unclear if the move is permanent or a temporary adjustment until Candelario, who had two hits Sunday, gets back on track. Steer was predominantly a middle-of-the-order bat and led the Reds in home runs and RBI in 2023.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Homers again, steals bag

Steer went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, one additional run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Mets.

He also has two steals in as many attempts and several clutch hits in the early going, including two go-ahead homers this week. The 26-year-old has started in left field exclusively but will likely end up moving around as he did last season.

Steer went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks during Friday's 3-2 loss against the Mets.

Steer put the Reds ahead early with a long ballt off Jose Quintana in the first inning, but Cincinnati's offense wasn't able to manufacture much else Friday. The 26-year-old utility man has homered twice with nine RBI through his first seven games.
