Suzuki (oblique) is batting second as the designated hitter Sunday against the Reds. The 29-year-old sat out Saturday after he exited Friday's contest due to tightness in his left oblique, but he'll return to action in a non-defensive role Sunday. Suzuki is off to a hot start in June with four extra-base hits and a .286/.375/.714 slash line through six games.... See More ... See Less

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Not starting Saturday
Suzuki (oblique) isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds. Suzuki was hit in the left side by a throw while stealing second base during Friday's loss, and he was later taken out of the game as a precaution after he felt his oblique tighten up. It's still unclear how serious his injury is, but the Cubs will play it safe Saturday and keep him sidelined. His absence will move Christopher Morel into the DH spot while Patrick Wisdom starts at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Dealing with oblique tightness
Suzuki said after Friday's game versus the Reds that he asked to be removed in the sixth inning after feeling tightness in his oblique, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Suzuki was hit in the side by a throw while stealing a base in the first inning, and he was checked on by trainers after appearing uncomfortable at the plate in the fifth frame. He later was replaced in right field by Mike Tauchman -- a precautionary move given Suzuki's recent history with oblique injuries. The Cubs haven't run any tests on the 29-year-old's oblique, so an update on his status will likely have to wait until before Saturday's contest.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Goes deep in loss
Suzuki went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Reds. Suzuki took Hunter Greene deep in the third inning for his seventh home run of the season. The outfielder now has three long balls over his last seven games, and he's batting a .308 during that span. Suzuki's numbers don't always jump off the page with a .781 OPS, but he's a fairly consistent contributor who gets plenty of playing time, which allows him to make an impact in most fantasy formats.... Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Contributes grand slam in victory
Suzuki went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a triple in Saturday's 7-5 win against Cincinnati. The Cubs fell behind by four runs early but tied the game with one stroke of the bat on Suzuki's second-inning grand slam. It was his first career grand slam and sixth homer of the campaign. Suzuki has hit safely in nine straight games and is batting .324 (12-for-37) with two homers, seven RBI and a stolen base during that span.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Absent from Thursday's lineup
Suzuki is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports. The Cubs will go with Mike Tauchman in right field, Cody Bellinger at designated hitter and Pete Crow-Armstrong in center field as they try to salvage a series split. Though his power hasn't shown up yet this season, Suzuki enters Thursday's game with a modest six-game hit streak, going 8-for-27 over that span.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Posts steal
Suzuki went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Brewers. Suzuki has gone 8-for-27 (.296) during his six-game hitting streak, though he hasn't posted an extra-base hit since May 15. The outfielder's steal Wednesday was his second of the campaign. He's slashing .254/.312/.389 with four home runs, 16 RBI, 19 runs scored and five doubles over 31 contests. Suzuki isn't having a poor year by any means, especially when factoring in his four-week absence with an oblique injury, but he's also not standing out in any particular area.... See More ... Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Grabbing seat Friday
Suzuki is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Pirates. Suzuki homered Wednesday in Atlanta but is just 6-for-26 at the dish since returning from the injured list. With Paul Skenes on the hill for the Pirates on Friday, a day off for Suzuki makes sense. Cody Bellinger will shift over to right field while Pete Crow-Armstrong handles center and Mike Tauchman serves as the designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Continues strong play Wednesday
Suzuki went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and another run scored in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Atlanta. Suzuki is batting just .217 in five games since returning from an oblique injury, though he has a strong .280 average and .825 OPS on the season. Those numbers are in line with the .285 average and .842 OPS the outfielder posted last year, when he also delivered a career-high 20 home runs. Suzuki only has four long balls so far in 2024, but he's been a consistent hitter at the MLB level and could get the power rolling in short order.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Records first steal in return
Suzuki went 2-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates. He also stole a base. Suzuki had been out since April 14 due to an oblique injury before getting activated Friday, though he didn't play in that game. He wasted no time getting his bat going Saturday and recorded his first stolen base of the season in the process, so he appears to be fully healthy. The outfielder is now batting a robust .313 to go with an .894 OPS, and he should continue to slot into a prominent spot in Chicago's lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Comes off injured list
Suzuki (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Suzuki's activation comes at a good time for the Cubs' offense, which just lost Dansby Swanson (knee) to the 10-day IL. Suzuki made two rehab appearances at Triple-A Iowa, going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and a stolen base. He'll likely return to his usual DH role, which could mean fewer opportunities for Patrick Wisdom.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Rehab stint starting Wednesday
Suzuki (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reported Tuesday. Suzuki will begin the in-game portion of his rehab from a right oblique strain, a significant step in his recovery. Suzuki has been sidelined for around three weeks, and he could be back with the Cubs sometime this weekend, per Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network. Until he gets reinstated from the 10-day IL, Patrick Wisdom and Mike Tauchman should see more work.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Inching closer to rehab assignment
Suzuki (oblique) is set to do hitting and defensive drills Saturday alongside Cody Bellinger (ribs), Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports. Suzuki suffered a right oblique strain April 14. He was first limited to light activity in his rehab, but Suzuki has since progressed to on-field batting practice. After his batting session Wednesday, Suzuki noted that he felt he was 80 percent recovered from his oblique strain and could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues to progress, per Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune.... Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Progresses to batting practice
Suzuki (oblique) took on-field batting practice Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune report. It's the first time he's taken BP since he suffered a right oblique strain April 14. Suzuki estimated that he's 80 percent recovered from the injury, and he could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues trending in the right direction. A return to the Cubs' active roster by mid-May looks doable for the outfielder.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Not close to rehab assignment
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Suzuki (oblique) upped the intensity of his baseball activities Saturday and Sunday but is not close to beginning a rehab assignment, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Suzuki is getting a recovery day Monday before resuming baseball activities Tuesday and Wednesday. While he would appear to be progressing slowly but surely, he still has some hoops to jump through before he's ready to go out on a rehab assignment. Suzuki has missed the last two weeks of action with a right oblique strain.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Starting light activity
Seiya (oblique) is introducing light baseball activity Sunday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Networkz reports. Suzuki was placed on the 10-day injured list April 15 due to a right oblique strain and is expected to miss about four weeks, as reported by Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune on April 16. Suzuki was off to a hot start this season, slashing .305/.368/.525 with three home runs and 13 RBI over 68 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Out several weeks
Suzuki is expected to miss roughly four weeks due to a moderate strain in his right oblique, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Manager Craig Counsell said the Cubs will have a better idea of Suzuki's return timeline once the outfielder is free of symptoms, but it appears he is in for a much longer IL stay than the 10-day minimum. Alexander Canario was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to replace Suzuki on the outfield depth chart, and Garrett Cooper has served as the Cubs' DH since Suzuki landed on the injured list Monday.... Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Moved to 10-day IL
The Cubs placed Suzuki on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a right oblique strain, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Suzuki was off to a strong start this season, slashing .305/.368/.525 with three home runs and 13 RBI. Jeff Passan of ESPN.com notes that Suzuki missed nearly six weeks after straining his left oblique in spring training last season, but the Cubs are hopeful that the 29-year-old won't remain on the shelf for that long this time around. In a corresponding move, the Cubs recalled Alexander Canario from Triple-A Iowa.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Hits third home run
Suzuki went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-1 win against Seattle. Suzuki was one of three Cubs with solo home runs in the win, joining Michael Busch and Miguel Amaya. The outfielder struck out in his other three at-bats, so the performance wasn't all good, but fantasy managers won't complain about three long balls through 14 games. Suzuki hit a career-high 20 home runs in 2023, and he could make a run at surpassing that figure this season if he keeps up his recent level of play.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Drives in three Friday
Suzuki went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and three RBI in Friday's 9-7 win over the Dodgers. Suzuki is one of several Chicago players swinging a hot bat amid the team's 5-2 start. The outfielder is slashing .345/.394/.621 -- all three marks would be new career highs by a good margin if he can keep this up. Suzuki will likely cool down some, though he's certainly talented enough to post strong fantasy numbers all season.... See More ... See Less
