Moreno (illness) is starting behind the plate and batting eighth Sunday at San Diego. The 24-year-old catcher was a late scratch Saturday due to an illness but is back in the lineup for Sunday's series finale. Moreno was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to illness but will be available off the bench, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Moreno and Ketel Marte (back) were both late scratches Saturday, but the pair will be available to enter off the bench. Tucker Barnhart will catch and bat ninth. The D-Backs will finish their series with the Padres on Sunday before a team off day Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Late scratch Saturday
Moreno was scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup prior to Saturday's game against the Padres. No word yet on why Moreno was taken out of the lineup, but the Diamondbacks will likely give an update on his status in the near future. In the meantime, Tucker Barnhart will catch for Ryne Nelson and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Clubs second homer
Moreno went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres. Moreno has gone 10-for-34 (.294) over his last 11 contests, hitting safely in nine of them. The homer was just his second of the year, as the catcher continues to struggle with generating power. Overall, he has a .242/.322/.344 slash line with 20 RBI, 19 runs scored, eight doubles, a triple and no stolen bases through 51 games.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Resting Wednesday
Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. He'll be getting some routine maintenance after he caught nine innings and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the Diamondbacks' 8-5 win Tuesday night. Tucker Barnhart will draw the start behind the plate Wednesday while Moreno rests.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Moves up in order
Moreno batted second and went 1-for-4 in Monday's 4-2 win over the Giants. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo tweaked the lineup against a left-handed starter, dropping Corbin Carroll to eighth and moving Moreno up the order. The manager told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports that Carroll is expected to slide down the order against lefties beyond Monday's game. The move is not a recognition of Moreno's hot bat -- he's batting .235 with a .643 OPS -- and is more about Carroll's struggles.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting afternoon off
Moreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. Moreno will get some rest for the series finale after he started at catcher each of the past three days while going 2-for-12 with a double and two runs scored. Tucker Barnhart will step in behind the dish Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting maintenance day
Moreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. Moreno will receive a breather after he had started at catcher both of the previous two days while going 1-for-8 with a double. Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Taking seat Thursday

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Resting Wednesday
Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. Moreno will get a breather for the day game after he went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored while serving as Arizona's starting catcher in a 14-1 win over St. Louis on Tuesday night. Tucker Barnhart will check in behind the dish for Wednesday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: In Thursday's lineup
Moreno (thumb) will start at catcher and bat sixth in Thursday's game against the Giants. Moreno hadn't started either of the Diamondbacks' previous two games due to a bruised right thumb, but he had been included in the initial lineup Wednesday before being scratched. He ended up appearing as a pinch hitter in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs, and he now looks like he'll be ready to not only hit but also play defense in Thursday's series opener.... See More ... Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Enters as pinch hitter
Moreno (thumb) entered Wednesday's game in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-1 in a 5-3 loss to the Cubs. Moreno was scratched from the lineup the last two games due to the injury. That he pinch hit for his replacement, Tucker Barnhart, and could have entered the game had Arizona tied it up in the ninth, suggests manager Torey Lovullo was comfortable with the thought of Moreno catching. He could rejoin the starting nine Thursday in San Francisco.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Scratched Tuesday
Moreno was scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Cubs due to a right thumb contusion, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Moreno bruised his thumb on a wild pitch during Monday's contest, and the damage is apparently severe enough to keep him from playing Tuesday. While he recovers, Tucker Barnhart will enter to play catcher and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting breather Wednesday
Moreno is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Colorado. Moreno nearly doubled his season hit total with four base knocks in Tuesday's 3-2 win, but the Diamondbacks and Rockies are playing a day game after a night game, so Arizona's top catcher will get a break. Tucker Barnhart will form a battery with starting pitcher Tommy Henry on Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Four-hit night
Moreno went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Rockies. With two regulars resting, Moreno was moved up to second in the order and delivered his first multi-hit game since Opening Day. Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Idle Wednesday
Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
