The Dodgers placed Gonsolin (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Friday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Clayton Kershaw (shoulder). Kershaw, of course, will soon go on the 60-day IL himself, creating another spot. Gonsolin will miss the 2024 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Gonsolin was ruled out for the rest of the 2023 campaign after being moved to the 60-day injured list Sunday, but news of Tommy John surgery likely means he'll miss most, if not the entirety of 2024. This is more disappointing news for the right-hander, who will finish the year with a 4.98 ERA over 103 frames after posting a 2.14 ERA across 130.1 innings a season ago.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Gonsolin (forearm) might require surgery, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
There's nothing official yet, but Gonsolin is not expected back this season, and a surgical procedure could affect his readiness for the beginning of the 2024 campaign. The 29-year-old right-hander landed on the injured list Aug. 19 due to right forearm discomfort, and an MRI taken earlier this week apparently revealed some form of structural damage.

The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver-wire pickup Tyson Miller, but more significantly, it officially closes the door on Gonsolin pitching again in 2023, barring the Dodgers making a deep postseason run. Even if the Dodgers advance to the National League Championship Series or the World Series, Gonsolin is still unlikely to pitch again, given that he could require surgery to address his right elbow injury. Gonsolin recently underwent an MRI, and the Dodgers will await the results before making a decision regarding surgery. If a procedure is deemed necessary, Gonsolin's absence could stretch into the 2024 season.

Gonsolin has been pitching through an elbow issue but will likely require a trip to the injured list, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
The exact nature of Gonsolin's injury is unclear, but the issue helps explain his poor run of starts. He allowed 10 runs (including five homers) in 3.1 innings Friday against the Marlins, bringing his ERA over his last six starts to 8.01. The injury could mean Ryan Pepiot sticks around in the rotation after a spot start in Saturday's doubleheader, or it could open a path for Emmet Sheehan or Gavin Stone to get another chance.
Gonsolin (8-5) surrendered 10 runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out two over 3.1 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Marlins.
Both starters struggled in this contest, but Gonsolin got caught with more traffic on the bases. He gave up a total of five homers in the contest, including three for multiple runs, in his worst outing of the season. This snapped a three-game winning streak for Gonsolin as well as the Dodgers' 11-game winning streak as a team. He's now at a 4.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 82:40 K:BB through 103 innings over 20 starts this year. Gonsolin has alternated good and bad outings over his last five turns, but he's projected for a tough road assignment in Boston his next time out.

Gonsolin earned his third win in a row, rebounding from allowing six runs over six innings his last start. His lone mistake Saturday was an Ezequiel Tovar solo home run on the first pitch of the game. While Gonsolin has either been sharp or shaky with little in between, it's averaged out to a pedestrian 4.24 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 80:36 K:BB through 99.2 innings over 19 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Marlins.
