There's so much more to Worthy besides his record-setting 40-yard-dash time at the NFL combine, which is why Fantasy managers figure to reach for him on Draft Day. Worthy led Texas in receiving yards each of the past three years and dominated not only downfield but also made things happen on short passes via screens and slants. Worthy is a good route-runner with great agility, but he's lean and figures to struggle with physicality at the NFL level. Truthfully it's catching passes from Patrick Mahomes that makes him attractive, and while rookie receivers have had a tough time adjusting to Andy Reid's offense in the past, we're just one year removed from Rashee Rice thriving as a rookie. Assume Worthy will make it to the Round 8-9 range in redraft leagues unless preseason reports are glowing. He's worth taking then, just as he's worth selecting late in Round 1 in all rookie-only formats.

  • Chiefs' Xavier Worthy: Tweaks hammy during OTAs

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Worthy tweaked his hamstring earlier during OTAs, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports. Reid said that Worthy "was only out there for a day and a half" before suffering the injury. The Chiefs will hope that the No. 28 overall pick is able to get back on the field without missing much time, as he's already going to have to skip some valuable reps to learn the offense and build chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Hamstring injuries have the potential to linger or resurface, though, so Kansas City could be motivated to take a cautious approach. In the meantime, wideouts like Justin Watson, Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore and Justyn Ross could benefit from increased reps.

  • Chiefs' Xavier Worthy: Kansas City snatches 28th overall

The Chiefs selected Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 28th overall. The Chiefs traded up from the 32nd pick to secure Worthy, the owner of the fastest combine 40 time on record (4.21 seconds). Worthy (5-foot-11, 165 pounds) and free-agent pickup Marquise Brown are both tiny speedsters who are loath to face much physicality from a defense, so it remains to be seen how well the two coexist in 2024, but in the meantime it's clear that the Chiefs are hammering a speed emphasis this offseason. Despite Worthy's struggles with contact and his history of dropped passes at Texas, he could prove uniquely dangerous with a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes.
